Day 89

Between a printing project and a lot of editing work (my real job), I haven't had much time to devote to the house lately. We installed the ceiling fans and other light fixtures (full disclosure: we had the electrician do it because if we waited until the husband or I had time to do it, we'd still be in the dark) and I managed to paint the living room.

And I finally (FINALLY!) got to bring out some of our artwork. What a huge difference that makes!

This is an original watercolor that we received as a wedding gift. It was painted by Naomi McMinn-Stang, a relative of the husband. What's so wonderful is that, even though she's never seen our house, we have a small garden at the front of the house that will one day look just like this! I love that she painted our names and wedding date carved into the tree. It's one of my favorite paintings.

This oil painting was a wedding gift from the husband's family. If I recall the story correctly, my sister-in-law took several photos, including one of the palisade, during a trip to Gateway, Colorado. She gave the photos to an artist friend of hers, and he did several paintings. They gave us this painting of the palisade, which is great because we live right below a different palisade in the town of, you guessed it, Palisade. The colors in this painting are amazing, and you can almost feel the sun setting and shining the last rays of light on the sheer red rock.

This is a signed watercolor print by William Matthews. The husband bought it before we met. He once told me that if his old house ever caught fire, I had to grab the cat and this painting before I ran to safety.

And then there's this guy. He says his name is Khakanang, but I just like to call him Bob. I don't have a good, safe place for him at the moment, so for now he gets Simon's old chair. I got him in a market in Chiang Mai, Thailand. He's a marionette puppet. I love him.

But for some reason, he gives the husband the willies. I'm not really sure why...

Courtney Khail stationery

It seems like it was months ago when I first saw the work of Courtney Khail, but I was just reminded of it again today over at {frolic!}.

I love that she combines her watercolor art work with printed designs. It's something I've been wanting to try for a long time. If only I could finish this house and have more time to play and be creative...

Her zinnia and peony cards are my favorite, but all of her designs are beautiful!

Myra Copus ornaments

While I was in graduate school in West Virginia I had the great fortune to meet my friend Kelly--she loves crafts and handwork items as much as I do!

Kelly has the ability to find the most amazing items at art and craft fairs and local shops. My Christmas present from her for several years in a row was a gorgeous handpainted ornament by Myra Copus. I grew up riding and showing horses, so each year Kelly picked an ornament with a horse on it. The snow on the ground today made me think of this ornament--it's one of my favorites.

Myra lives in Annapolis, MD, and I imagine that you can find her work at art and craft fairs or at local shops if you live in the area. Otherwise, you can check out her website here.
